SPI Matrix and Reactivo controllers are both Art-net to SPI converters for control of Digital Pixel LED strips. While Reactivo can handle 1024 RGB pixels from single output, the SPI Matrix has 4 outputs and the total no. of controllable pixels is 4096 RGB. Resolume Arena is a popular VJ software and media server ( and probably a lot more … ) that can control your LEDs via Art-net protocol.
The setup of the Resolume Arena is pretty intuitive, as well as creating your own effects. The variety of special generators is huge, you can play any video, overall, we think it is a great piece of software. The software can search for all the Art-net devices on the same network and can Broadcast the data to all, or perhaps more preferably, it can send the data to a specific device. While searching for Reactivo, it was working flawlessly. There was a minor issue with SPI Matrix, though. While the device is recognized by the software, it seems that it is not responding when selected from the list of devices. But, an easy work-around would be to put in the IP manually.
Important note to remember – in our devices and also software, we are counting the Art-net universes from 1. Some producers, and Resolume is a good example, are starting in both their hardware/software, with Art-net universe 0. Thus it is important to remember this while setting up the software and controllers.
