The very first word in the name of the controller suggestes it has an independent PSU unit inside the device – Powered. These are small power supply units with main function to power the device independently. It can be also used to power segments directly.
One pixel version #
Single output on PSL2 can control up to 1024 RGB pixels of standard WS2815 addressable strip. To put that into perspective, that is 17 meters of pixel strip with density of 60pix/meter. Those of you that are working with Art-net, that is 6 full Universes.

If you are working with pixels that are using 4 and not 3 channels per pixel, this number decreases to 768 RGBW ( 4 channel ) total controllable pixels.
As with every pixel controller, the total number can change with the type of the IC that you are using. If you want to achieve really high FPS playing videos on your addressable strips, you can choose IC accordingly, but at the cost of lower total number of controllable pixels.
Built-in power supply #
We are currently producing 3 versions with different voltage PSU inside. These are most common 5V, 12V and 24V. Since the box is very compact, the unit has max. 10A for 5V, 5A for 12V and 2.5A for 24V version. The main reason for the built-in PSU is that you need to power the unit anyway.

This way, your source of data for your pixel strips is independent of the PSU powering the strips. In case of any failure, the unit is still running. For complex projects, where you need to power couple meters on multiple locations, you can grab multiple units and then use Ethernet cable to network them together in a switch.
