Not everyone wants to rely on their Mouse and Keyboard in order to be able to play different animations from the program. Some may even hate this and thus keeping away from software based solutions as far as possible. Though you still need a PC, you can easily setup your favorite keypad . Take a simple MIDI controller and bind pads and knobs to the effects and control aspects such as speed and brightness.
You can locate the MIDI settings in Controls. There you a have a list of all the options available – OSC, DMX, Art-Net and much more. Click on MIDI and after a short while, you can see an option to refresh the devices connected to your system.
Once you click on any of the controllers that you want to map, you will see two options – Add Notes and Add controller. Add Note – you can map a note/pad and trigger a specific Scene from a specific Bank. Add controller – you can control Brightness, Speed and RGB colors. This is typically used with a knob so that you can easily speed up or lower the brightness of your effect.
To program the individual PADs or Knobs, you click on the small window next to Note, Channel. A request to Press Note will appear in the same window. You then hit the pad or turn the nob and the software will learn the position. You can then select which animation you want to trigger or what aspect of the animation you want to control.
You can continue mapping your controller.
