How to “turn off” single pixel in your digital LED strip?

Although it may seem an easy task at first, the truth is rather the opposite. When you are controlling the effects from your software, you need to somehow tell the program to turn off a specific pixel within your strip. You have two options, both shown in the videos in this articles. You can either recreate the mapping or use a Multi-effect and cover the specific pixel with black static animation (Black = Turn Off).

Multi-effect layers and single pixel #

Once you have the mapping, the effects and everything ready and you, for whatever reason discover that you need to turn off a Single pixel, there is an option to create Multi-effect. A great advantage is that in this special type of animation, you can stack multiple layers on top of each other. You can not change the opacity and so on, but you can adjust the size. And that is exactly what you need.

In the effect, you select what animation you want to play in the strip/pixels and you add one new Video scene/Color effect. You can then cover the part of the strip that you want with black color, effectively turning the pixel off.

Mapping – separate your strips into segments #

This option is a bit more complicated. You have to carefully remap your project. Short video below explains the process. You need to divide your strip into multiple segments, draw a single dot or a line with just one pixel and then lower the brightens of that 1 pixel segment to minimum.
