Pixel LED Calculator for WS2815

WS2815 is a 12V digital pixel strip with a built-in backup data line, which makes it a common choice for large addressable LED installations. When you’re planning how many meters (and how many controllers) you need, three numbers drive the calculation:

  • Pixels per meter — WS2815 strips are commonly sold in 30, 60 or 96 LED/m densities. Check the density printed on your strip’s packaging or datasheet.
  • Power draw per pixel — figure roughly 0.3W per RGB pixel at full white, though real-world shows rarely run every pixel at full brightness simultaneously.
  • Controller pixel limit — every LED Strip Studio controller has a maximum pixel count per output (see the tech specs on each product page, e.g. LEC3 or SPI Matrix).

Multiply strip length by pixel density to get your total pixel count, then divide by your controller’s per-output pixel limit to see how many outputs (or controllers) you’ll need — and use the power draw estimate to size your power supplies with headroom.
