Why is DMX to SPI option available?
In order to have an All-In-One device that can control both digital and analog LED strips, the function to change the SPI output to DMX output was necessary. The ability to multiply your DMX outputs and convert SPI to DMX can be useful on projects combining different technologies. You could potentially connect multiple DMX devices to a single controller.
How many outputs can I change this way?
You can change as many outputs as desired. In the software or web configuration tool, you can select which strip type you are using for each output separately.
What gear are you using in your video?
The example uses:
- LED Ethernet Controller 3
- LED Strip Studio software
- Homemade SPI to RJ45 cable
- Small 4-channel Lady dimmer with RJ45 for DMX IN/OUT
Mapping
In the mapping interface, you draw a Digital strip and assign it to your output. Create a Group representing a single output. For this output, select DMX RGB for the strip type.
The Address is set as the LED Curve number. If your Dimmer has address 10, set the LED Curve number to 10.
What effects can I use?
The library contains numerous effects including static colors and color chases. Since analog strips display only a single color at a time, create a video effect and apply color effects to that animation. Colors will then flash on your analog strip.
Which controllers are capable of DMX to SPI?
Both SPI Matrix and LED Ethernet Controller 3 can change the strip type of the SPI output to DMX.
How many devices can I connect to single output?
The standard recommended limit is “32 devices per single DMX line.” You can test more, though fewer will definitely work.
