Precise Pixel Control

Every Pixel. Its Own Colour.

LEC3 and SPI Matrix address every pixel individually across 4 independent SPI outputs: up to 1024 RGB or 768 RGBW pixels per output, and 4096 RGB or 3072 RGBW from one device. The limit per output is fixed, so you can plan a layout without guessing.

Pixel by Pixel

What precise pixel control means

Every LEC3 and SPI Matrix has 4 independent SPI outputs. Each output drives up to 1024 RGB or 768 RGBW pixels, addressed individually: every pixel gets its own colour and brightness value, sent over the SPI protocol your strip's chip understands.

"Precise" means two things. The controller addresses pixels one by one rather than dimming a whole strip at once, and the pixel limit per output is fixed and predictable, so you know in advance where a run will run out of addresses.

  • Individual colour and brightness for every pixel
  • Up to 1024 RGB or 768 RGBW pixels per output
  • Chip type set per output, see Wide LED Chip Support
  • Split the pixel budget across the 4 outputs as the installation needs

One or Four Outputs

When a single-output controller is enough

The SPI LED Controller has the same limit per output, up to 1024 RGB or 768 RGBW pixels, but only 1 SPI output, so its total doesn't grow past that. It's the right choice when one output is all a project needs. LEC3 or SPI Matrix make sense once the pixels have to be split across several physical runs from one box.

Outputs, pixels and connectors of every controller side by side: comparison of digital LED controllers.

  • SPI LED Controller: 1 output, up to 1024 RGB pixels
  • LEC3 and SPI Matrix: 4 outputs, up to 4096 RGB pixels
  • A pixel upgrade raises the tier later without new hardware

Performance Tiers

Total pixels by tier

The tier sets the total pixel budget across all 4 outputs combined, for example 1024 pixels on each output, or a heavier load on one output and lighter loads on the rest.

FAQ

Pixel control questions

Up to 4096 RGB or 3072 RGBW pixels on the PRO tier, across 4 independent SPI outputs with up to 1024 RGB or 768 RGBW pixels each. Full answer in Pixels and Universes per Controller.

Yes. The tier sets the total budget for all 4 outputs, and you split it the way the installation needs, up to the limit of 1024 RGB or 768 RGBW pixels per output. Background in LITE, STANDARD, PRO on LEC3 & SPI Matrix.

Yes. A pixel upgrade takes a device from 1024 to 2048 or 4096 pixels. It is bound to the serial number of the device and needs no hardware change. Background in LITE, STANDARD, PRO on LEC3 & SPI Matrix.
