What project is Lady Dimmer good for?
Basically any project that involves Analog LED strips. Primarily designed for small to medium sized decorations where you don’t want to use digital strips. Thanks to its size, it is great for moving objects. Simple 12V battery can power quite large number of LED segments for substantial time period. We are using this type of Dimmer in our LED dance costumes for shows synchronized with music.
How many meters of LED strip can I control?
Depends on the power rating of your LED strip and the limitation of device outputs. Total output can not exceed 8A, with limit of 3A per channel/output. On an example, you can power up to 6.5M of strip that has power rating of 14.4W per meter. That is in case of 12V strip. You can find more example in FAQ section in User Manual.
What LED strip I can use?
Any dimmable strip that falls within the operating voltage range of 12-24V. It can be single color strip or 4channel RGBW strip.
How many channels are available?
Lady dimmer has 4 operating channels. That gives you option to use special RGBW pixels that utilize all available channels. Another option is to use common RGB strips, or different combinations of multicolor and single color strips.
How can I setup the DMX address?
Each DMX device in the same DMX universe needs a unique address. On Lady Dimmer, you can use the 12bit DIP switch. Only 9 DIPs are used to set up the address in range from 1-255. Remaining DIPs have other functions.
What is usable voltage range of Lady Dimmer?
Most common analog LED strips that you can find on the market are in 12-24V. Hence the same range is available with Lady Dimmer.
What frequency does it operate in?
Since we are working a lot for TV studios and television in general, we designed this simple dimmer so that the lights appear flicker free on most high-end studio cameras in use. You can use DIP number 11 to choose between 490Hz and 3.9kHz. Thanks to this the dimmer is flicker free on most cameras. Refer to the User Manual for further details.
What can I use to send DMX signal?
You can find a pair of RJ45 connectors on the device. This type of connection has several advantages over XLR cables traditionally used for DMX devices. Main reason is the availability and cost for a meter of e.g. CAT5e cable. Most DMX consoles of course use XLR connectors. You can buy ready-made cable or make one. Just follow the pinout scheme in User Manual.
Is there a cable-less solution?
You can also use standard wireless DMX antenna for transmission of signal in areas with low electromagnetic noise. You can solder the DMX module to designated pads on the Lady Dimmer. We recommend to use this solution in low electromagnetic noise environment, as wireless DMX is notoriously unstable whenever there are a lot of people (with their mobile phones).
