This tutorial is for those utilizing ArtNet to SPI Converters that were not activated for use of the custom protocol – SPI Matrix and Reactivo.
The controllers can only playback files using the custom file format. Whether created in the software from scratch or recorded with Art-Net recorder, you need to create the mapping for your strips in the software.
Dummy device
Each controller used in your project has an IP address. You tell the software which device receives the animation. In standalone mode, you don’t need to know the address. However, the software requires “some” address for each new device created. Hence “Dummy device.”
IMPORTANT: Your Dummy device cannot have the same IP as the actual device. The software’s custom protocol has priority over ArtNet. It will try to take over, but since your SPI Matrix is not activated, it will allow connection only briefly. Then ArtNet takes over, repeating this cycle until frustrated.
What works effectively is using the same IPs in ArtNet and Mapping, then adding 1 at the start. Alternatively, make it divisible by 7 and add 10.
Use similar naming systems for the folders where you export animations. The key is staying organized.
