Not all kind of venues are ideal for RGB lights. We think the Edison light bulbs are great pixel light effect for e.g. Latino clubs. We’ve used them for Day&Night club in the centre of Bratislava.

We’ve used more than 350 pixel-LED bulbs Edison to cover the ceiling of the venue. They are all controlled using 40 pieces of powered XMas dimmer. And since  the owner of the club wanted to use just simple MIDI keyboard to control all the scenes, we’ve used LED Strip Studio software with one SPI Matrix as a control solution. The software generates Art-Net which is converted to DMX using one SPI Matrix.

 

Midi Control

We’ve used AKAI MPD218 to trigger different kind of prepared light scenes in LED Strip Studio software. And the DJ/LJ can also use knobs to control the brightness or speed of animations.

What we really liked was how the MPC218 can be programmed. You can assign different MIDI notes and controller to every button or knob. The Akai software is a bit tricky, but once you get used to it, it’s ok.

In the LED Strip Studio software we’ve assigned the Midi notes and knobs to scene selection, brightness and animation speed control.

Mapping

Mapping was quite a challenge in the club. You don’t have exact position of the light bulb, so we’ve used the grid on the floor to find out position of every single individual light bulb.

Anyway, in the end it was worth it, since we can use all the nice color effects from LED Strip Studio using every light bulb as individual 2-color pixel.

The Result

The owner of the club was very happy about how the new lighting was received by the clients. They have increased turnover, since the club is lot more visible from the street, so it attracts new clients. And we really like how the Edison light bulbs can be used to improve the design of the venue.
