Our LED strips are available in IP65+ rated versions for humid or splash-prone areas, but the controllers themselves ship in indoor-rated enclosures and need a weatherproof cabinet for true outdoor or harsh-environment deployment.
It depends on which part of the system you mean:
- LED strips — we offer strips rated from IP20 (dry indoor use only) up through IP65, which adds a protective silicone coating resistant to dust and water splashes — suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and covered outdoor areas. See our full breakdown of IP ratings for LED strips.
- Controllers — LEC3, SPI Matrix, Reactivo 2, and the PSL2 ship in compact indoor-rated enclosures (the PSL2’s rugged aluminum housing, for example, is rated IP30). None of our controllers are natively rated for direct outdoor or wash-down exposure.
The standard approach for outdoor installations is to keep the controller in a protected location — an indoor rack room, or a weatherproof cabinet/enclosure if it has to sit outside — and run the LED strip itself outdoors with an appropriate IP65+ rating. Because SPI signal quality drops off after about 3 meters, our Symmetrizer accessory lets you keep the controller up to 100 meters away from the outdoor LEDs without losing signal integrity.
