Standard SPI data starts to degrade after only about 3 meters between the controller and the first LED. Our Symmetrizer accessory converts that into a differential signal that can reliably travel up to 100 meters over standard shielded CAT5e/CAT6 cable.
Standard SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) signals were never designed for long-distance travel. The recommended distance between a pixel controller and the first LED is often as short as 3 meters (10 feet). Beyond that, unbalanced SPI data becomes vulnerable to signal corruption, electromagnetic interference from nearby power cables or motors, crosstalk between parallel data lines, and impedance-mismatch reflections — all of which show up as flickering, random color pops, or strips that won’t respond at all.
Our Symmetrizer accessory solves this by converting the SPI signal into a differential (balanced) signal, the same principle used in long professional audio and network cabling. That differential signal can travel over standard, inexpensive shielded CAT5E/CAT6 cable for up to 100 meters with high immunity to noise and interference.
If you’re using LEC3 or SPI Matrix, Symmetrizer technology is already built into the device outputs — you only need to add a standalone Symmetrizer module at the start of each long LED run to convert the signal back to pixel-ready data. It also works as a pair with most third-party SPI controllers (Madrix, Enttec, Advatek, etc.).
