Description
The Edison CCT bulb set turns 64 classic-looking bulbs into one tunable white lighting system. You get 64 EDISON CCT LED light bulbs and the Powered Bulb Dimmer Dual Polarity that drives them. Each bulb hides three warm white and three cold white filaments behind classic Edison glass. It screws into any standard E27 socket, and it answers to the WS2811 protocol. So instead of 64 bulbs locked to one colour temperature, you mix, fade and dim warm and cold white in every bulb — over a single data cable.
What is in the Edison CCT bulb set?
The MEGA SET holds 64 EDISON CCT LED light bulbs and one Powered Bulb Dimmer Dual Polarity. The dimmer also brings a PowerCON power cable with the plug for your country. In addition, you get all 64 two-pole terminal block plugs. Therefore you only add the run from each output to its lamp holder.
What the Edison CCT bulb set does not include
E27 lamp holders, fixtures and the cable to each socket stay outside the box, because they depend on your installation. However, the wiring is simple. Each dimmer output takes 0.5–1.5 mm² wire in a 3.5 mm pitch terminal.
Two filaments in one E27 socket, two whites
Every EDISON CCT bulb carries six LED filaments: three cold white and three warm white. The filaments sit anti-parallel. In other words, DC voltage in one polarity lights one colour temperature, while the reverse polarity lights the other. The bulb itself runs at 32 V.
Why anti-parallel wiring matters
Anti-parallel wiring lets a plain E27 socket carry two colour temperatures on only two wires. No third conductor, no driver inside the bulb, no wireless module to pair. But an ordinary dimmer cannot use it. Reverse the polarity and it simply sees a different load. Therefore the colour temperature control has to come from the controller.
How does the dual polarity dimmer control the bulbs?
The Powered Bulb Dimmer Dual Polarity is a 64-channel SPI dimmer with its own power supply. It suits 31–33 V constant voltage fixtures with anti-parallel LED connection. Each of its 64 outputs drives both polarities on its own. So one output runs one bulb, and it handles both colour temperatures of that bulb.
One output, two 8-bit channels
The first 8 bits of the WS2811 signal set the PWM level of one polarity. Then the second 8 bits set the other, with 256 levels each and a PWM frequency above 1000 Hz. In LED Strip Studio software you therefore give each bulb a two-channel fixture on red and green. In short: two channels per bulb, not three or four.
Where the Edison CCT bulb set works best
Warm filaments alone give the familiar glow of a vintage bulb. Cold filaments alone give a clean working light. Between them sits everything a restaurant, bar, lounge, showroom or stage needs across an evening. For example, one installation can run bright and neutral in the afternoon, and then warm and low at midnight.
From mood light to music-synced animation
The Edison CCT bulb set speaks a standard lighting protocol. Because of that, it never sticks to one fixed scene. With LED Strip Studio software and a LED Ethernet Controller 3 you run animations across all 64 bulbs. For instance a slow drift between colour temperatures, a chase down a row of pendants, or a show that follows the music.
Wiring the Edison CCT bulb set from mains to bulb
Mains arrives on the dimmer’s PowerCON input. It then passes through the PowerCON output to the next unit, so several dimmers share one supply run. Meanwhile WS2811 data comes in on RJ-45 and leaves on the second RJ-45. Cat5e or better carries it up to 100 m.
Power and data in, bulbs out
On the output side, each of the 64 two-pole terminals feeds one lamp holder. Polarity at the terminal is not a mistake to avoid. On the contrary, it is the control mechanism. So a swapped pair simply swaps warm and cold on that bulb.
Edison CCT bulb set — questions and answers
Can I use the bulbs in a normal E27 lamp?
The bulbs fit any standard E27 socket. However, they run on 32 V DC from the dual polarity dimmer, not on mains voltage. So never screw them into a mains-powered fixture.
How many bulbs can one dimmer drive?
One Powered Bulb Dimmer Dual Polarity has 64 outputs and drives one bulb per output. That is exactly the 64 bulbs in the Edison CCT bulb set. In addition, a single SPI output carries a chain of up to 16 dimmers.
Can I control the Edison CCT bulb set over DMX?
Yes, with an additional SPI LED Controller. It converts DMX to the WS2811 signal that the dimmer expects. Otherwise you drive the set over WS2811 from a controller such as the LEC 3 or SPI MATRIX.
How do I set the bulbs up in the software?
Give each bulb a two-channel fixture on red and green, that is one channel per colour temperature. Do not choose a three- or four-channel RGB fixture.
Do the bulbs flicker on camera?
The dimmer runs PWM above 1000 Hz. Still, it works on a polarity-change principle, so a little flicker always remains, even at full brightness. Therefore test the set with your own camera before critical filming.
