Description
The Powered Bulb Dimmer is a 64-channel SPI bulb dimmer with a built-in power supply. It dims 12 V or 24 V constant-voltage fixtures, such as dimmable LED bulbs and short LED strips. Connect mains and data, and all 64 outputs are ready.
Why use an SPI bulb dimmer?
Pixel controllers speak WS2811, but a dimmable LED bulb does not. Normally you combine a separate dimmer, an LED power supply and a lot of wiring between them. The Powered Bulb Dimmer puts all of that into one aluminium box. As a result, 64 bulbs become 64 individually controllable points in your show.
How the Powered Bulb Dimmer works
The unit reads differential 800 kHz SPI and turns each 8-bit value into a PWM level on one output. That gives 256 brightness steps per channel. The PWM runs at 2 kHz, so the light stays flicker-free on most video cameras. In addition, every output has its own self-resetting fuse.
Key details
- 64 open-drain outputs, up to 500 mA on a single channel
- 12 V version: 12.2 A in total, 190 mA per channel when the load is spread evenly
- 24 V version: 6.1 A in total, 95 mA per channel when the load is spread evenly
- Mains 85–264 VAC on PowerCON in and through, 148 W rated power, 2 W self consumption
- SPI in and out on ESD-protected RJ-45, data runs up to 100 m on Cat5e
- Up to 48 units in one chain, so a four-output LEC 3 PRO drives 4 × 48 dimmers
- Aluminium enclosure, IP30, 243.5 x 93 x 105 mm, 1290 g
Which fixtures and controllers does it suit?
Wire single-colour bulbs or strips as 64 independent sections. Alternatively, group outputs for CCT, RGB or RGBW strips. LEC 3 and SPI MATRIX drive it directly. Controllers without differential output, such as the SPI LED Controller or REACTIVO 2, connect through THE SYMMETRIZER. For DMX, the SPI LED Controller offers pixel mode and SD card mode. Typical uses include events, clubs, theatre, scenography and showcases.
What comes in the box?
You get the dimmer, a PowerCON cable with a plug for your country and all 64 terminal plugs. Side tabs take screws, cable ties, clamps or a safety wire. A qualified electrician should carry out the installation. Showtacle backs every unit with a 5-year limited warranty, and our LED Strip Studio software generates the WS2811 signal it needs.
